This is a weird fact to know, I admit. I think I learned it in high school. It’s knowledge like this that makes me a real hit with the ladies at the bars here in Austin.

Rats use their tails to regulate their body temperature. When a rat is hot, more blood flows to its tail so it can lose heat. When a rat is cold, less blood flows to the tail so it conserves heat.

My son just got the latest Guinness Book of World Records for a birthday present and at first I thought he might drive the whole family crazy with fun facts, but it’s mostly pretty interesting and now the whole family is addicted to it. I could tell you the world’s largest apple (4 lbs) or world’s longest bridge (23.8 miles, LA), but this is the best: there’s actually a world’s record for the dog who can hold the most tennis balls in his mouth. Yes there is. A golden retriever named Augie has fetched and held in his mouth all at one time five tennis balls.
